In a sunlit studio space overlooking Santa Monica’s bustling promenade, an intriguing creative partnership has taken root. Jaymie Parkkinen, a legal mind who moonlights as the incisive co-host of The Comedy Fix podcast, has found an unlikely collaborator in Liam Clancy, a data analyst whose academic foundations in neuroscience and economics inform his performances at the venerable Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

The pair’s collaboration emerged from the experimental comedy laboratory where they first crossed paths, pushing against the traditional boundaries of improvisational theatre. Their approach is refreshingly iconoclastic: they systematically deconstruct the conventional “rules” of improv while maintaining a delicate balance between artistic innovation and commercial appeal.

“We’re interested in finding what lies beyond the established framework,” explains Parkkinen, adjusting the sleeve of his well-tailored jacket. “But we’re equally committed to creating work that resonates with audiences and holds personal significance,” Clancy adds.

This measured approach to experimental comedy represents a growing movement among West Coast performers who are redefining the parameters of improvisational art while keeping one foot firmly planted in accessibility. It’s a delicate balance that few manage to strike with such precision.
